Types of Construction Drawings to Prepare the Building Process – In construction process, it can starts with designs and plans as the early preparations. Construction drawing is one of the necessary preparations because the drawing will have clear images of the construction that will be built. The drawings will be guide during the construction process so things will be based on the agreed plans. There are many drawings that will be made and each of them has different aspect to handle. This will be job of architect and engineer in the construction team that will prepare the drawings. Things are made in scale and details are necessary to maintain precision that will become the clear guide to start the building process. There are some types of construction drawings, and each of them has specific purpose.
First, it is the site plan. This will be a drawing containing the overall or general map of construction site. This shows the clear preview of situation and details around the construction site. Thus, nearby buildings, roads, natural features such as rivers, and even topography of the site can be seen from the site plan. It is not only to provide clear information of the site, but it also needs to provide clear information of changes that will happen once the construction is completed. Construction surely will change the situation on the site and this should be made into clear pictures.
Next is the plot plans. In some aspects, plot plan may seem similar to the site plan. However, it has more comprehensive details. Even, it will have aerial and above-ground images of the site. Specifically, it will focus on the specific site where the construction will be conducted so there can be information of marks from the land survey and site analysis. This will show the purchased land that will be the main site of construction so the area will be limited and more details can be provided.
Excavation plan is the drawing that will show clear plan for the excavation that will be conducted in the early process of construction. Excavation is necessary to build the foundation of the building. Thus, the excavation plan drawing will show clear plan of excavation and how it will be performed. Information of excavation process will be provided in the drawing. Even measurement for the excavation will be seen in the drawing, such as the depth, length, and width of the excavation. By doing so, excavation later can be executed properly with all of the measurement and calculation.
After that, there are floor plan drawings. Floor plan will show how the construction will be seen from above without the roofs. Thus, it can be seen the distribution of rooms in the building. Information regarding room and its type or purpose will be provided. When there are some floors of the building, each floor will be made into different drawing and there will information of stairs that will connect the floors. Measurement of the room and even material can be added into details.
Elevation drawing will provide different prospective of the building. Floor plan shows the building without roof, but the elevation drawings will provide images of the construction seen vertically so it is like what you can have when you see the building from the outside. It will be made in two dimensions so you will not see depth of the building. The goal of the elevation drawing is to provide clear design and plan of the exterior for the house while the floor plan is for the interior management.
Elevation drawing will be supported by the section drawings. Section drawings will provide more specific details of the exterior. It shows the hidden structure of the building and even the details regarding the foundation of the building. Thus, details of what are inside the walls and floors can be provided. Columns, beams, and supporting structure of the house will be seen from the drawings.
Detail drawings will have deeper and more specific details in the construction plan. The drawings can provide images of connections between the floors and foundations, and other connections of frames in the house. It will show precision and details regarding the connection of columns and foundation, windows and door frames, and even the staircases.
In addition to the connections between parts in the house and frames, the mechanical and electrical details should be provided into drawings. This will show the wiring paths, plumbing and pipelines in the house, thermostat placements, and even locations of switches in the house. These need to be prepared well so later the mechanical and electrical details can be arranged neatly in the building. This will be helpful in case there are problems in the future. When those drawings are made, then there will be finishing drawings that will show smaller details such as wall colors, patterns of the floor, and even texture of the plaster. This will be followed by the ceiling drawing to provide clear plans and images of the ceilings and roofing of the building.
